RELAY SPECIFICS
When registering a relay team, each team member will fill out and sign a registration
form (online or mail-in.) Be sure to include your team's name and in which category
your team will be racing. The available categories for the relay are Men's Only,
Women's Only, Co-Ed, and Battle of the Badge.
Every team member will receive a race packet. Only one packet will contain the timing
chip and slap bracelet. Plan on picking up your team's
packets all at once.
The relay will run the full-marathon course, divided up into 6 legs. This requires
a team of no more than 6 runners. Relay transitions can only occur at the transition
areas located at miles 4, 9, 13.5, 16.5, and 22.
Each team is responsible for transporting its members to and from the 2nd, 3rd, and
4th transition areas. Race officials will transport the 1st, 2nd,
and 6th leg runners to and from their respective transition areas. Team drivers
are to access the transition areas using back roads. Team vehicles will not be allowed
to drive the course. This course will be closed to traffic for the safety of the
runners. Teams found driving the course will be disqualified.
The following is a brief layout of the relay process:
|
The 1st and 2nd leg runners will meet at Madison High School at 5:30am to load the
bus to travel to the
starting line.
The 1st leg runners will take their places at the starting line; 2nd leg runners
will load onto a bus that will drop them off at T1 (mile 4).
The bus at T1 will wait till all 1st leg runners have come in, at that time runners
will be taken to
T3 (mile 13.5) or to Smith Park.
Team drivers will need to drop off the 3rd leg runner and pick up the 2nd leg runner
at T2
(mile 9) using the back roads.
Team drivers will then drive to
T3 to drop off the 4th leg runner and pick up the 3rd leg runner along with
the 1st leg runner that was dropped off by the bus.
Team drivers will then access
T4 (mile 16.5) using back roads to drop off the 5th leg runner and pick
up the 4th leg runner.
The 6th leg runner will need to catch a shuttle at the south side of Smith Park
to T5 (mile 22). Stone's Town and Country Toyota will be providing the shuttle
service and will leave Smith Park every 15 minutes starting at 8:00 a.m. Be sure
to allow for enough time to get to the park, ride the shuttle, and arrive at T5
before the 5th leg runners approache.
Team members will have the option of joining up with the 6th leg runner to run through
the finish line at the corner of 2nd East and Main Street.
|
Each team will be provided a snap-bracelet and timing chip. The snap-bracelet is
to be passed to the next team member at the transition areas. The timing chip must
be worn by the 1st and 6th leg runner. It must cross the Start Line and the Finish
Line to get the correct time. Only the overall time will be measured.
The safety of the runners is our first priority! Please be extra careful at transition
points. Park your cars on the side roads and never on the course. Please be considerate
of the other racers by not blocking the road while waiting for the exchange.
